Below are a few options that can be considered when protecting or enhancing your natural smile.
Patients often approach us with concerns regarding their amalgam fillings. They often feel that the silver of the amalgam is unsightly and they may also dislike the idea of having mercury amalgam in their mouth. Traditionally the process has been to drill out the fillings and replace them with white composite. This has always been an imperfect solution because often, when the cavities are quite large, then white fillings are not an effective long term solution. This is because there is often shrinkage in the material.
As a practice we have recognised these difficulties for a number of years and in 2012 took the decision to invest in the next generation of dental technology. CEREC dental technology is simpler, more accurate and provides stronger, more attractive results. The process involves the fillings being removed, a digital scan taken of the area that needs filling, which is in turn transmitted directly to an on-site milling unit. The unit manufactures the highest quality ceramic in-lay, on-lay or even crown within one hour. Ceramic is the strongest dental material and does not shrink or wear. The process also provides a more natural contour in the area being filled. Click here to see a demonstration of CERE technology.
For smaller areas that need filling the practice uses the latest composite materials to achieve a colour match so that the fillings is a perfect aesthetic fit.

When a tooth is badly broken or heavily filled, the dentist may need to crown or ‘cap’ it to restore its appearance and strength. Promenade Dental is one of the very few practices in Bristol who have invested in CEREC dental technology. This latest technology is simpler, more accurate and provides stronger, more attractive results. At the practice we take a digital scan taken of the area that needs a crown fitted, which is in turn transmitted directly to an on-site milling unit. This in turn manufactures the highest quality ceramic crowns within one hour. Ceramic is the strongest dental material and does not shrink or wear. The process also provides a more natural contour in the area being filled. See below for an example of the results of CEREC technology at the practice. A partial denture is the simplest way of replacing missing teeth. However, some people find dentures uncomfortable and eventually decide to have a bridge made. Bridges are ideal for people who don’t like dentures or only have one or two teeth missing. Conventional bridges are made by crowning the teeth on either side of the gap and attaching a false tooth in the middle. They are fixed in the same way as crowns. These bridges are usually made of precious metal bonded to porcelain. Sometimes other non-precious metals are used in the base for strength.
Veneers are an ideal way of treating discoloured or unsightly teeth, closing gaps between front teeth, or repairing chips and cracks.
We believe that the best treatment for an anxious patient is kindness and consideration. At Promenade Dental we take great care to ensure a relaxing environment for all our patients, however, some patients may need a little extra help. We are able to offer our gentle touch of sedation for those patients who feel anxious of a dental visit. Please call us to discuss your needs further.
At Promenade Dental, we use a tooth whitening system that utilises custom-made fitted trays for a patient to wear at night, and in our experience this is the most effective system available for tooth whitening.
Obviously, the choice of which system to use is a patient’s choice ultimately, although our focus remains on getting the best possible results for a patient – and not just in the short-term.

The Promenade Dental Practice, is pleased to offer the Six Month Smiles System, designed specifically for adults and teenagers (over 15), who have crooked, crowded or spaced teeth.
The technique offers tremendous advantages over traditional metal braces:
- Unlike the traditional braces people must often wear for two to four years, this procedure straightens teeth in an average of just six months and uses low forces to gently move teeth more comfortably
- The Six Month Smiles System utilizes specialized clear brackets and tooth-colored wires – making them virtually invisible
- The procedure requires fewer dentist visits and is typically less expensive than traditional braces
In addition, the Six Month Smiles System can result in healthier gums, since straight teeth are easier to clean than crooked teeth. Click here to view a video on some of the benefits of Six Months Smiles.
Dr Kain Rowlings and Dr Regina Bormann are both trained practitioners in this pioneering new treatment. If would like to talk to us about this treatment or would simply like some more information please click here.
Dental implants are artificial titanium tooth roots used to replace missing teeth and counter further tooth loss.
The procedure is categorized as a form of prosthetic (artificial replacement) dentistry, though it also falls into the category of cosmetic dentistry as well.
Although there are a number of restorative options for the treatment of missing teeth, none have proven to be as functionally effective and durable as implants. In many cases, dental implants may be the only logical choice for the restoration of all necessary functionality of the teeth and supporting bone structures.
People who have lost teeth might feel too self-conscious to smile or talk. Additionally, biting irregularities caused by tooth loss can have a negative effect on eating habits and this can lead to secondary health problems like malnutrition. Regardless of the nature of problems related to tooth loss, dental implants may provide a simple remedy with proven results.
Dr Kain Rowlings is our experienced practitioner in fitting dental implants. Please see actual cases below that Kain has worked on at the practice:
